The benefits of low-code, or platform-based development are widely recognized by more and more companies, however, there are still many questions around the technology. That’s why we organized a roundtable session where we discussed the platform’s potentials, including the fact that low-code can be the perfect entry point to an IT career.
During the discussion we received many questions from you, and here we have collected the most important ones to help you understand the practical implications of low-code. Jiri Kram, Technology Manager responsible for Danubia at Accenture Salesforce Practice, Philippe Ozil, Principal Developer Advocate at Salesforce and Kristóf Bárdos, co-founder and Managing Director of Green Fox Academy answered to provide insights into the field for future low-code developers.
“At Green Fox Academy you can currently start in two different directions. Our 4.5 month long junior programming course prepares students for a career in platform development (this is the low-code career path). Additionally, we are launching our 2-month Salesforce Consultant training this June. We recommend this career path for those who would like to move into IT, but do not want to do programming. After completing the courses, students will be able to understand business needs and answer them with tailor-made solutions,” explains Kristóf.
Philippe says that in the field of low-code, it is not necessarily the official paper that counts. Colleagues and business partners will recognize those as experts who can solve various business needs and then can integrate the ready-made solution into other softwares. Jiri adds that from a company perspective you will become an expert when you can deliver projects successfully and work in teams efficiently. However, certificates can be an advantage in terms of both recognition and applicable knowledge.
Green Fox is committed towards creating an educational environment that fulfills current IT job market needs. We regularly survey our alumni to have an accurate picture about the graduates’ experiences. Our statistics show that 90% of our alumni succeeded in landing an IT-related job.
One of the best benefits of low-code development is that it democratizes the field of IT. As Philippe sees it, people with different backgrounds and experiences can launch their career in low-code without a degree in computer engineering.
“Before joining Accenture, I was a freelancer for many years,” explains Jiri. “As the demand for low-code developers is constantly growing, you can take on projects continuously. However, you need to invest in yourself. Low-code is definitely applicable in the freelance market, but you need to specialize in a specific area.”
“I think the hardest part is being a freelancer itself. Building a portfolio or maintaining a network of people who can support you when additional expertise is needed can be challenging. All in all, you can definitely be a low-code developer as a freelancer, if you are aware of the challenging aspects of being a freelancer,” adds Philippe.
“At Accenture, people of all ages are represented among our new joiners. The most important thing is to have the right mindset that fits the company and the team. With Green Fox’s courses you can get a glimpse of what this looks like through real-life cases. Additionally, previous work experience basically from any industry could be an advantage,” says Jiri.
“Low-code can break down barriers between people with different backgrounds. On the one hand, previous work experience can be an advantage, as it means you have experience with teamwork, hierarchy, and business processes, and thus you have stronger people skills. On the other hand, if you are younger, you can more easily adapt to business cultures and processes. Both cases are appreciated in the world of low-code development. Having passion and energy is important, so you can invest in yourself. It is a job you never stop learning,” explains Philippe.
“Previous work experience is highly appreciated by our company partners. They value existing knowledge and if you understand business processes, for example in finance or marketing,” adds Kristóf.
